The Colorful Creature Beta 1.6.0

The version is FINALLY out! Here's all of the features in Beta 1.6.0

Before we start:

This is PROBABLY one of the biggest updates the game has ever recieved. Also this is probably the final free version of the colorful creature, because we’re planning to put the game on steam for 2 euros (Please tell me if that price is fair!). If you want to hear more about what will come on the steam versions, read this document.

Oh by the way, the game has been ported for Linux! So if you have ubuntu, or something, then you can play the game without using an emulator. Now all penguins can be happy!

Features in Beta 1.6:

Main Menu:

- New title screen! The title looks better in general and has more animations.

- More splashtexts, they also contain some hints and cool easter eggs. Keep looking for them!

- Credits menu updated.

Settings:

- Removed Show Hats setting.

- Updated colorblind options, added grayscale.

- Added an option to choose whenever you should hold a key to skip a level or just press to skip. The default is now hold instead of press.

Stats:

- Updated “Total Skins Unlocked” stat.

Achievements:

- Added achievements for jumping.

Settings:

- Support for more key bindings in controls config.

New Currency! Credits…

- Credits is a secondary currency of the game, it lets you buy various stuff in game such as hats and other goodies (well for now only hats). There are various ways to get credits. The best way to earn credits is converting them from coins to credits through a conversion machine at world 5. Each converted coin is 3 credits. (Side note, the reason why credits are used instead of coins is because coins get reset every time you do a new run of the game, and coins are used for skipping levels so that’s why it would make more sense instead of breaking the game.). Other ways to get credits is through challenges, endless run, and hardmode but you get significantly less.

Story Mode:

- Remastered block backgrounds in all levels. Be amazed at the brand new graphics!

- Changed few levels with minor or major changes.

- Changed W4-L11 to avoid bad game design and confusion.

- The tutorial in the second level now shows you the jump button key properly.

- Added “new strats” for speedrunners. For example more hidden walls and goodies.

- Dynamic Difficulty slightly changed and made some levels more fair to play.

- Added the hat merchant, which sells you hats for credits. There are various hats that you can buy from the hat merchant. There are around more than 15 hats available.

- In some levels narrator text was changed.

Hard Mode:

- Added two brand new difficulties: Yeah GL and Eternal Suffering.

- Yeah GL difficulty not only does decrease the chances for 1UPs to spawn, but it also features a time limit. If you beat a level you will get more time, you also get more time if you get 1UPs but you get way less in comparison to just beating levels. If you ran out of time, you lose and you will have to start all over again. Don’t worry the timer isn’t that strict but that does not mean you would be alright for the rest of the run if you go slowly.

- Eternal Suffering is just like Yeah GL except 1UPs no longer spawn, which also means you will get less time in general, also getting more time when beating levels is more strict. No mistakes must be made.

- Added descriptions for each difficulty.

- Changed names of difficulties: (Impossible difficulty name is now called ridiculous, and one chance is now named Impossible). Because of this change, info on how to get certain skins is also changed. Name changes did not change the actual difficulty.

- Depending on the difficulty of hardmode, you get more credits.

Blocks, Items, Level Editor:

Boy oh boy get ready for this one!

- Made a new save/load system, now capable of loading and saving multiple levels!

- You can now name your own levels. This is important because this is how you can save multiple levels.

- If you want to load levels, you will now have to type the name of the level to load it!

- Levels without a name cannot be saved or loaded.

- Added a new “Failed” message in the level editor if you tried something that wouldn’t work (such as loading a level without inputting a name.)

- Added moving spikes!

- Added build mode & play mode to the level editor.

- Build Mode lets you build levels while play mode lets you playtest your levels. The reason why this change was added is because if you were to place moving platforms, enemies, cannons, moving spikes etc… they would be very annoying while playtesting and building realtime, because these things aren’t static.. So that is why in this case, in build mode, platforms will no longer move, enemies won’t react and moving spikes won’t be activated. The player also cannot be controlled in build mode. In play mode, you cannot modify your levels, but you can playtest them at your will.

- The player can now restart a level in level editor, without resetting the entire level accidentally.

- Added Ice Block Slopes in level editor and in the main game.

- You can now put any default color to the player in level editor instead of placing a color item below the player.

- With the new save/load feature, it is now way easier to share your levels.

- Updated some icons in level editor to look more high quality.

- Changed names of some items (For example rocket launcher is now called Rocket Cannon)

- Changed names & sprites for some items & blocks.

- You can use arrow keys instead of 4 and 6 numbers to change items in level editor.

- Selecting items with 4 - 6 feature was removed.

- LevelEditor Tutorial was changed.

- Made changes to gravity and speed items, they now have updated new sprites instead of numbers. This change was made to avoid confusion and it was replaced with arrows.

Fun Mode:

- Added SIX NEW SKINS, SIX! One of them is a legendary skin.

- You can use arrow keys to go through pages in the skin menu.

- Added two new challenges.

- Some songs were changed in certain challenges.

- You will be able to customize your skin with hats in the customize menu. You’ll need to firstly buy hats from the hat merchant though.

- Changed BigRoom-L2 to avoid bad game design and confusion.

- Changed few challenge levels.

- Added a new ending screen when you beat a challenge.

- In that new ending screen, it shows you time, deaths, rating and if you got a new highscore (or record).

- Medal times were changed.

Local Multiplayer:

- New skins are available for Local Multiplayer.

- More maps for both Survival and Race minigames. (10 new maps for both minigames)

- When choosing a skin, you can hold arrow keys to quickly change skins.

- Rockets has been nerfed in LM, they would get destroyed once they touch/kill a player.

- Hats is customizable in local multiplayer.

Endless Run:

- Added new levels from new challenges.

- New songs added in endless run.

Other:

- Implemented ychange and xchange within player skins, so skins on different shapes and sizes don't get stuck.

- The code uses more switch/cases, allowing for more performance.

- Invisible blocks will no longer spawn particles.

- Blocks outside of the screen will no longer render sprites.

- Access granted for using songs from 3kliksphilip, the composer of the first 2 worlds in the main game, thank you 3kliksphilip!

- New custom crash message added if the game happens to crash, the message will now explain how to report a bug, however there are unfortunately cons. You cannot copy text in the error message, so therefore a text file called crash.txt will be created in local files in a folder called Other, so you can use those to report bugs.

- Added fonts in new texture group

- Settings are now always saved when you exit settings.

- Stats are now always saved in the title screen.

- The explosion sound when you defeat the boss has been lowered.

Bugfixes in Beta 1.6:

- Door flickering when placing keys in level editor fixed.

- Links should work again in the support section (For google chrome users)

- Made the fog in build mode less annoying when building.

- Fixed fog position if the mouse is out of the screen.

- Made W4-L8 possible on hardmode! (thanks dha).

- Stars won't go over some buttons anymore in menus.

- Lots of stability with the level editor

- One of the splash texts looked extremely weird, so therefore they were changed.

- The pause menu was weird in big levels so it’s been fixed. (also brings few extremely small optimizations)

- Finally removed that weird block in bigroom-L1, basically there was a block that you could kind-of go through but it has very weird collisions. It's been fixed.

- Properly placed the text when you beat a challenge in the middle.

- Fixed some repetitive code that slowed down the game

- Optimized narrator text more.

- Stats and settings will now autosave in the title screen (caused various problems before)

- Fixed Rich Presence API with colors.

- Optimizations with textures.

- Optimizations with settings animations.

- Settings animations arent supposed to be sped up when the game has higher refresh rate on.

- Fixed a lot of animations that were sped up because of a higher refresh rate.

- The default keys option in controls config was displaying wrong info.

- For some reason when you tried skipping a level it would only work on the C key, so if you customized the skip level key it would not work.

- Fixed W5-L20, also shortened the speech from the troop in that level.
